About this Podcast
HOST: Welcome to our podcast, today we're talking with an expert in Biophilic Design. Can you tell us a bit about what drew you to this field and why it's important to you? GUEST: Absolutely, I've always been fascinated by the relationship between humans and nature. Biophilic Design allows me to combine that interest with my professional skills as an architect. It's crucial because it has the potential to significantly improve people's well-being through better design. HOST: That's fascinating! Now, could you share some current trends in Biophilic Design that you're excited about? GUEST: Sure, one trend is the increasing use of green walls and roofs in urban areas. This not only improves air quality but also provides a visual connection to nature. Another trend is the emphasis on daylighting, which brings natural light into buildings, enhancing both aesthetics and energy efficiency. HOST: Those sound like great developments. But as with any new concept, there must be challenges. What would you say are the biggest hurdles in implementing Biophilic Design? GUEST: A significant challenge is changing the mindset of clients who may be unfamiliar with these concepts or prioritize cost over long-term benefits. Additionally, incorporating natural elements requires careful planning and maintenance, which can add complexity to a project. HOST: It certainly takes a visionary client to see the value in such investments. Looking forward, where do you see Biophilic Design heading in the next 5-10 years? GUEST: I believe it will become more mainstream as people become more aware of the importance of mental health and sustainability. We might see biophilic design principles applied even in unexpected places like factories and hospitals, making our built environment healthier and more enjoyable for everyone. HOST: That's an inspiring vision! Thank you so much for joining us today and sharing your insights on the Certified Professional in Biophilic Design course. We're excited to see how this field evolves and positively impacts our communities. GUEST: My pleasure! Thanks for having me.
